If You Aren't Afraid Of Your Goals, You Aren't Stretching Yourself

The only way i've found useful to improve

In this essay, I want to share an idea that has resonated with me so deeply it has become my motto: "If you aren’t afraid of your goals, you aren’t stretching yourself enough."

I first heard this phrase from an old friend, and since then, it has served as a reminder that I might be on the right track whenever I'm genuinely afraid of what lies ahead. Fear of your goals can look different for everyone. It might come as a fear of crippling uncertainty, a fear of failing on a project you’re unsure how to complete, fear of not being good enough for some role, or simply negative self-talk. Whatever form it takes, chances are it’s about taking on too much—the fear of "biting off more than you can chew".

As always pop culture has its own take on this as well.

Pop culture says - you should know your limits and be not overwhelm yourself with things you know you can’t handle or are beyond your current abilities. This, it says, is better for your mental health. I say—forget pop culture. If you want real growth, do exactly what you believe is beyond your reach. Challenge yourself in every possible way and embrace the most uncertain paths. Be aware that sometimes (or even most of the time), failing or not being able to handle what you committed to is part of this game. Operating at your maximum means you shouldn’t expect constant success. The goal should be to get comfortable with the process of stretching yourself, not to obsess over the outcome.

Don't get me wrong. I’m not saying this approach is for everyone. Not everyone will enjoy it, but if you’re obsessed with improvement and growth, this might be the recipe for you.
